George Winter BA Honours Fine Art:
George, originally from Wales was a successful actor appearing in Films such as 'Scum', directed by Alan Clark, and 'All Quiet On The Western Front' directed by Delbert Mann. Starring in the West End he played the lead in 'The Corn is Green' with Deborah Kerr at The Old Vic, played at The National Theatre, in London, and also various lead parts in Television Series such as 'The Bretts', 'The Knights of God,' and Merlin in 'Merlin and the Crystal Caves.'

George always loved art, even while acting he would draw and paint in his spare time. He decided to change careers, and as a mature student applied for a place at Bristol University, where he studied for three years gaining a BA Honours Degree in Fine Art in 1995.
George became a professional artist and exhibited his paintings in Wales, Bristol, and the West of England namely The Brewhouse Gallery in Taunton; The Alpha House Gallery, Sherborne; The Walker Gallery, Honiton, and The Black Swan Gallery in Frome. His drawings have also been accepted and exhibited in consecutive years at The Cheltenham Open Drawing competition (now The Jerwood Drawing Prize). And in latter years he has been commissioned for portraiture.
George has always been inspired by the light and colour of Italy, and last year he and his wife moved to Italy permanently.
He works in oils, acrylics, watercolours, pastels and charcoal. He says: “sometimes I work fast and furiously in an emotional response, and at other times methodically and deliberately - depending on the subject matter. “
George and Christine now live not far from the tiny hamlet of I Ciacca where his wife’s great grandfather was born, and has been the point of reference for inspiration.
